Bisacodyl is a stimulant (irritant) laxative. It acts directly on the colonic mucosa-where it stimulates sensory nerve endings in the walls of the intestine and the rectum to produce parasympathetic reflexes resulting in
increased peristaltic contractions of the colon and cause defecation.

Absorption: 5% of the drug is absorbed after oral administration.Distribution: It is distributed locally.
Metabolism: It is hydrolyzed by intestinal enzymes esterases and bacteria in the bowel to active desacetyl forms.Excretion: Bisacodyl is excreted mainly in the stool. Absorbed drug is excreted in urine.
