About Ardeparin
Low molecular weight heparin, Anti coagulant.
Mechanism of Action of Ardeparin
Ardeparin is an anticoagulant. It is a low molecular weight heparin that binds to and accelerate the activity of antithrombin III.This produces inactivation of factor Xa and thrombin and prevents the formation of blood clots.Binding of Ardeparin with Heparin cofactor II also inhibits thrombin activity and produces anticoagulant effect.

Side Effects of Ardeparin
1.Rash
2.Fever
3.Nausea.
4.Mild pain, redness, or warmth at the injection site
5.Difficulty in breathing
6.Closing of throat
7.Swelling of lips, tongue, or face; or hives
8.Prolonged bleeding
9.Pain, warmth, or redness in an arm or leg
10.Ulceration at the injection site.
Contra-indications of Ardeparin
1.Hypersensitivity to Ardeparin
2.Uncontrolled active bleeding
3.Allergy to pork products
Special Precautions while taking Ardeparin
1.Bacterial endocarditis
2.Uncontrolled blood pressure
3.Need to have surgery or another invasive procedure
4.Hemophilia
5.Stomach ulcer
6.Eye problems due to diabetes or high blood pressure
7.Liver disease
8.Kidney disease
9.Very low level of platelets
10.Cannot have accurate blood testing done prior to and during dosing

1.To prevent deep venous thrombosis following knee replacement surgery.
Interactions for Ardeparin
Anticoagulants and antiplatelets agents: Increased risk of bleeding
Typical Dosage for Ardeparin
As directed by the physician.Usually given as subcutaneous injection.
50 anti-factor Xa U/Kg 2 times daily for 2 weeks or until patient is ambulatory whichever is shorter.

Storage Requirements for Ardeparin
Store ardeparin at room temperature away from moisture and heat.Keep out of the reach of children. Keep the medicine from freezing. Do not refrigerate.
Effects of Missed Dosage of Ardeparin
Take the missed dose as soon as noticed and if it is the time for next dose then skip the missed dose.Continue the regular schedule.Do not double the dose.
Effects of Overdose of Ardeparin
Give supportive measures and symptomatic treatment.Bleeding can be stopped by discontinuing the drug and by applying pressure at the site.Protmine sulfate can also be administered.
